What is this map?

This interactive map presents research on the UK Armed Forces community published between 2016 and 2026. Evidence is organised by population group (rows) and topic (columns). Each cell contains coloured bubbles indicating the volume and type of available research, making it easy to see at a glance where evidence exists and where gaps remain.

How to interact with the map?

• Each coloured bubble represents a different type of evidence.
• Click on the bubbles in the legend to isolate specic evidence.
• The size of a bubble reflects the number of studies: larger bubbles indicate more evidence.
• The number inside each bubble shows the exact count.
• An empty cell (marked with a small dot) signals a gap in the evidence base.
• Click any bubble to open a detailed list of the underlying evidence, including titles, authors, dates, and links to the original sources.
• Press Escape or click outside the panel to close it.

Where does the data come from?

The map draws on data from the Research and Policy Repository maintained by the Centre for Evidence for the Armed Forces Community and funded by the Forces in Mind Trust. Evidence on the map has been catalogued following the repository, with limited manual updates to the categorisation based on source titles and abstracts. We cannot guarantee the categorisation is always accurate and reflective of the source content.
