Over £450K awarded to 13 projects across the UK
When service duty takes a loved one away from home, families can feel the strain.
That’s why we’ve awarded 13 projects a share of over £450,000 in the latest round of the Apart, not alone programme which aims to enhance the quality of life for those experiencing service-related separation. These latest awards bring the total awarded through this programme to over £1.2million.
Designed to respond to the changing nature of military life, Apart not alone focuses on support that strengthens family connections and helps families better manage the emotional and practical challenges of separation.
Projects supported will offer practical, preventative, wellbeing support for spouses, partners, children and young people through peer-to-peer groups, community connection activities, counselling and trauma-informed practice, youth-led service design, and specialist assistance for families dealing with long deployments, weekending and remote caring responsibilities.
Funded projects at a glance
- In Scotland, community resilience support will be offered at Kinloss Barracks by the Army Welfare Service, Forces Children Scotland will co-design youth-led deployment and weekending services, and SSAFA will provide family-focused peer support at HMNB Clyde.
- In England, eight funded projects will focus on reducing isolation during separation, strengthening family resilience and reintegration around key bases and communities. Projects will include community engagement and peer support, family 1:1 and group support, school-based youth work for young people, and specialist welfare casework for families needing practical and emotional help.
- In Wales, The VC Gallery will provide weekly family integration sessions, counselling and practical advice to support families.
- Across the UK, the RAF Association will deliver a specialised ‘Navigating Dementia’ programme for serving personnel supporting relatives remotely.
