“Noone mourns the wicked”

How do you solve the most intractable problems facing the armed forces community? It’s the question which was taken on by organisations in our Transformational Grants programme – and our CEO, Anna Wright, has been reflecting on them at the half-way point of their delivery.

Noone mourns the wicked

Wicked. It’s the word I use to describe the most intractable and gnarly problems facing people in the armed forces community: challenges or barriers which are the hardest to solve or move. They feel like they’ve been around forever. Everyone’s tried to solve them; new ideas take three steps forward and two steps back.

The technology might not – yet – exist for the most logical solution. We knew we needed to enable brave organisations to dig deep and lift up all of the rocks, to uncover the barriers to solving these knotty problems. We wanted to give organisations the opportunity to change the landscape, and rid the sector of some of our most obstinate problems forever.
