Needs of veterans facing homelessness

Commissioned by the Trust, Alma Economics is currently carrying out a three-year evaluation of the Reducing Veteran Homelessness (RVH) Programme, which commenced in November 2023 and is due to continue until November 2026.

Since that work has been commissioned, additional funding for the RVH Programme has become available to both extend the overall duration of programme activities and to fund new projects. In advance of the additional funding being allocated, we asked Alma Economics to conduct an independent piece of consultative research to understand the current unmet and insufficiently met needs of veterans facing (or at risk of) homelessness in the UK.

Free from Fear: tackling domestic abuse in armed forces communities

Our Free from Fear programme is now open, offering grants of £100,000 to £250,000 for two-year projects that will help tackle domestic abuse and strengthen responses for serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families.

Together for Service Families: Place-based grants is now open, giving organisations the chance to strengthen support for serving families affected by separation and relocation.

Targeted interventions supporting older service children

Funded under the Service Pupil Support Programme, This project recognises the hidden and compelling needs of service children in Further Education in Greater Manchester, where the majority are from unaccompanied families and in small cohorts. This project brings together colleges to improve understanding and provide targeted support.

Climb 2 Recovery

Climb 2 Recovery (C2R) is working to redefine what recovery means to veterans through therapeutic mountaineering and climbing.

The Penelope Project

West Mercia Women’s Aid received a grant through the Free from Fear programme to support their project, The Penelope Project- an initiative designed to work with the military service to help domestic abuse victims access confidential, independent advice and support, enabling them and their children to move towards safety and recovery.

Spotlight on: Naval Under Fives

Funded under the Early Years Programme,  Naval Under Fives  are offering extended opening hours to support working service families.

RAF Valley

Funded under the Supporting Partners programme, RAF Valley brings service spouses and partners together, while taking part in a wide range of positive health and well being activities whilst enabling informal support nets to develop.

Veterans Housing Scotland

Funded under the Major Capital Grants Programme, Veterans Housing Scotland delivers an additional refurbishment programme to improve and extend affordable housing options for veterans with disabilities in Scotland.

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust will award grants of between £10,000 and £150,000 on behalf of the MOD’s Armed Forces Families Fund Supporting Partners programme.

The Together for Service Families: place-based grants programme will award portfolio grants which will mitigate the impact of service-related separation and relocation for families of serving personnel and reservists
Free From Fear programme

Free From Fear programme

Grants of between £100,000 and £250,000 to address domestic abuse through preventative measures or providing support routes for for serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families.

The Reducing Veteran Homelessness programme will improve the capacity of services in supported housing, to meet the needs of veterans at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
