New Covenant Fund Programmes for 2022/23

The popular Force for Change programme has now reopened for applications.

The Reaching and Supporting Armed Forces Communities programme has also now opened. This programme will award grants of up to £100,000 over a period of up to three years.

Small grants that make a big difference

The Force for Change programme will award grants of up to £10,000 to support ideas that need small amounts of funding to deliver changes or improvements for Armed Forces communities.

This year, we’ll support ideas that need small amounts of funding to deliver changes or improvements for Armed Forces communities. If you apply for a grant, you need to show how this would help specifically help to address specific needs in a meaningful way; and where you can clearly tell us about the current gap that exists in provision and why your project might help.

Your project will need to

  • Address a specific need for Armed Forces communities within your local area
  • Be able to be completed within a year or less
  • Be able to show that the people from Armed Forces communities that your project will work with have helped to design the project, and would take part if you received funding

Larger grants to address more complex challenges

The Reaching and Supporting Armed Forces Communities programme will award grants of up to £100,000 over a period of up to three years. For exceptional projects, larger grants may be available. We are looking for projects that are specific and targeted; and this could include addressing hidden needs, as well as needs that are more well known.

We are also looking for applications that can be clear about the evidence of why their project is needed, and how the impact of the project will continue after the grant has ended.

We will be more likely to fund projects that focus on specific groups of people within Armed Forces communities, rather than more general approaches. We are also keen to see that the people who will benefit from the project have been able to shape how it will be delivered.

Transformational grant programme to launch Summer 2022

A further programme Transforming approaches to supporting unmet needs will launch in Summer 2022. This will award a small number of significant grants of up to £300,000 to develop sustainable new approaches to addressing unmet needs

Anna Wright, Chief Executive of the Armed Forces Covenant, said

“We are looking forward to being able to support important and much needed projects that will make a real difference to the lives of people within Armed Forces communities who are experiencing a particular challenge. We are particularly interested to explore ideas to support Armed Forces communities with hidden, or less well understood needs. We look forward to being able to make some excellent grants, and to see the impact they make over the months and years to come.”
