Blog: Bereavement is Everyone’s Business
Alison Penny, Coordinator of the National Bereavement Alliance, looks at where our new bereavement research sits in the wider landscape of evidence on bereavement support and what needs to change.
Many of the challenges of bereavement were brought into sharp relief during Covid. Many more bereavements than usual were faced during those terrible months, and the brutal circumstances in which people were unable to say goodbye or to gather to support each other in grief both worsened the experience of bereavement. It also put a spotlight on the long-standing difficulties that bereaved families had been facing since long before the pandemic, and this focus led to the establishment of an independent UK Commission on Bereavement.
