Supporting Armed Forces in Acute Hospital Settings: Evaluation Report
In 2021, Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (the Trust) with NHS England provided £2 million in funding to support our most vulnerable Veterans in acute hospital settings across the UK. 17 grants were awarded to establish the role of Armed Forces Advocates (AFA), ensuring Veterans and their families received additional care and support when it was most needed.
The project introduced initiatives aimed at transforming how the Armed Forces community is identified, supported, and managed within acute hospital environments.
The following evaluation report, produced by the University of Chester, highlights the findings and recommendations from the programme. It explores the impact of the AFA role, the specific needs of Veteran patients, and how the role has been instrumental in improving awareness and education around the Armed Forces Covenant.
