Veterans’ Community Centres programme: new awards made
Almost £240,000 has been awarded to Veterans’ community centres in our latest round of funding, spanning the UK and ensuring these vital buildings remain fit for purpose and available to Veterans of all ages.
Eleven more centres will now receive funds to help them improve access, revamp toilet facilities, make vital roof and electric repairs and generally ensure Veterans have a place to go, day or night, to meet with others, socialise and overcome the isolation they may be facing. A new roof gives a new lease of life
The Llangollen branch of the RAF Association were awarded £20,000 to replace the roof of their building. Lesley Chew, Branch Club Committee Member said:
“Our Royal Air Forces Association at Llangollen was formed in 1947, moving to its present accommodation in the early 1960s. The Branch Club continues to this day and is a vital part of the local community offering a friendly, safe and inviting environment for veterans and their families of all cap badges.
Our Committee is overwhelmed to have received support from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, enabling long lasting repairs to the flat roof across the entire building aspect. This vital support will help us to flourish even more as we look to encourage even more of the veteran community through our doors. Thank you!”
Do you know of a veterans’ community centre in your local area that could do with a refresh?
- You must own an existing building (or hold a long lease).
- You must be a charity or CIC that supports the Armed Forces community.
- Your building must be regularly used by Veterans (not just on an ad-hoc basis).
- We can’t support activity costs, salaries or purely aesthetic changes.
- We can support repairs, upgrades to electrics, plumbing or technology and new fixtures and fittings.
There is also an opportunity to apply for up to £150,000 from this programme for exceptional, larger projects.
The next closing date is 4 November 2020. For all you need to know, visit our programme page.
