Practical and Emotional Support for Serving Families On the Move
Moving to a new posting can be both exciting and overwhelming for service families, especially those with young children.
To help make this transition smoother, Home-Start Richmondshire, in partnership with Army Welfare Service and the Hive, will be delivering the project Settling into Catterick aimed at providing practical and emotional support to families relocating to Catterick garrison.

Recognising that every family’s situation is unique, the project will contact families before their move and engage with them again after their arrival in the garrison to assess their needs and ensure they receive the right support at the right time. Whether its navigating school admissions, connecting with local groups, or accessing support services for debt advice or special educational needs, families will be guided towards the resources that best fits their needs.
Beyond practical support, the project is also about adapting a sense of belonging. Families will be invited to drop-in coffee mornings, providing a welcoming space to meet other families, share experiences and build on friendships.
Heather, Chair of Trustees for Home-Start Richmondshire said:
“This support is not just a financial boost; it empowers us to continue our vital work, expand our reach, and make a lasting impact on the lives of those we support. Together, we are one step closer to a brighter future for military families within our community. Military families often face unique challenges, and we are committed to ensuring they have access to support their need. Our team of dedicated volunteers is looking forward to helping military families navigate the complexities of their lives and thrive within the Richmondshire community.”
