Sustaining support: Extra support for Veterans and Armed Forces families impacted by the Afghanistan conflict

September 23, 2021

The Sustaining Support: Supporting veterans and families impacted by the Afghanistan conflict programme is being delivered at pace to enable funding to get swiftly to projects to expand their activities. The funding is being targeted to programmes where the type of work that they are doing through their projects would be most likely to be able to be scaled up quickly. Decisions on funding will be made in November 2021.

The Trust is aware some of our grant holders are actively providing support to veterans and families whose mental health and well-being has been impacted by the Afghanistan conflict. They are adapting what they do to meet a rise in demand to support veterans and Armed Forces families, relating to the Afghanistan conflict, and its aftermath.

The Trust has launched a rapid delivery programme; Sustaining Support: Supporting veterans and families impacted by the Afghanistan conflict. This programme will provide emergency funding for some existing grantholders to quickly scale up or expand their activities to meet this need.

Funding through this programme is only available to organisations that are already working with veterans or Armed Forces families that have been impacted by the Afghanistan conflict; and have been funded already through the Trust’s Positive Pathways or Removing Barriers to Family Life programmes.

Eligible organisations will receive an invitation directly to apply. Grants of £10,000 or £35,000 are available, depending on the need that the expanded project would address.  We will be asking projects to tell us how they would expand their activities over a 12 month period if they received funding.

If you are not eligible for the Sustaining Support: Supporting Veterans and Armed Forces families impacted by the Afghanistan conflict programme; but you are seeing increased needs in the communities that you are working with then you can apply for up to £10,000 through the Force for Change programme.  Your plans would need to meet the eligibility criteria and aims of that programme. The closing date for the next round is 19th November 2021, and you will receive a funding decision in February 2022
